Greetings from ISAAC!

(Institute for the Study of Asian American Christianity)

We want to invite you to ISAAC’s 5th Symposium: “Healing of Memories, Healing of Finances” taking place on Saturday, October 5th, at Evergreen Baptist Church SGV. The topic was chosen because wounded memories about money can debilitate ministry spiritually, psychologically, and financially. By unmasking these memories, healing is possible in reframing them in light of God’s abundant love. The aim of the symposium is to become better stewards of our spiritual, physical and financial assets.

For the morning we have lined up business executives and a pastoral leader to address financial values and toolboxes.

Speakers include:

Albert Hung, Lead Pastor at Trinity Church of the Nazarene in Monterey Park, CA, on controlling our finances instead of letting our finances control us.

Jeffrey Wong, who has over 25 years of experience in the finance industry, will speak on the challenges of integrating work in finance within a kingdom framework.

Sal Mendoza, Senior Vice President of Community Reinvestment at City National Bank, on the role of the financial industry in bringing about greater economic justice.

Shana Won, Certified Financial Planner with Shuster Financial Group, will walk attendees through decoupling emotional ties to money.

At the luncheon, we will be honoring Bishop Roy Sano, who was interned at an internment camp during WWII, an experience that profoundly shaped his ministry of justice and grace. Please see the attached the press release and the postcard about the event. I have known Bishop Sano for several decades and have found him to be a bridge builder on multiple levels. It would be meaningful to have both Union Church and the Bridges participate in the 5th Symposium.
In the afternoon, Hee-Sun Cheon will guide attendees through a participatory creative experience of sculpting. The small groups will be facilitated by the best facilitators in town including Alan Oda, Carol Miyake, Eleanor Huang, James Yu, Ken Tang Quan, Phillis Yu, Tracy Lee, and etc.

Also, there will be a mini art gallery curated by Sam Kho. All in all, it will be an inspiring day of participatory learning.

Looking forward to having you at the symposium!
