Just as the biblical prophet Zechariah foresaw, Jerusalem has become a “cup of controversy” on the global stage today (see Zech. 12:1-3). Now, perhaps more than ever before, it is critical that believers unite together to pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
The Global Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem (DPPJ) began in 2002 and is the largest prayer movement in history to facilitate focused prayer on Israel and its people. The annual prayer effort takes place on the first Sunday in October.
The occasion looks to raise global awareness and intercession for God's purposes in Israel, as well as to unite believers around the world to pray on behalf of this troubled but strategic land and its people. DPPJ coincides with the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur.
“God is stirring the hearts of Christians from China to Germany and from Kenya to Brazil, to raise our voices in fervent intercession on behalf of Jerusalem and all her inhabitants, both Jew and Arab alike,” state DPPJ co-chairmen Pastor Jack Hayford and Robert Stearns, founder and executive director of Eagles’ Wings.
A Jerusalem Celebration on October 2 will be carried live on GOD TV around the world, but the real thrust of the initiative is on the local church level. Resources for the event—including posters, prayer cards, videos, flyers and children’s resources—are available on the official DPPJ website.
