STEVE YAMAGUCHI, DMIN
Dean of StudentsT
Steve Yamaguchi will become Fuller’s new Dean of Students August 1, 2014. For the past 11 years he has served as executive presbyter of the Presbytery of Los Ranchos in Southern California. In this role of “Pastor to the Presbytery,” he has been a catalyst to help the presbytery and its congregations give birth to creative new ministries. Prior to this position, Steve served in pastoral ministry for 24 years. He was ordained as a Minister of Word and Sacrament in 1988.
Steve has a BA from Westmont College, MDiv from Princeton Theological Seminary, and DMin from Claremont School of Theology. His doctoral work focused on transforming PC(USA) governing bodies from organizations modeled on corporate hierarchy into communities of Christ-followers sent into the world.
Born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, Steve has a passion for urban ministry, and sees Holy Spirit inspired grassroots networking and collaboration as key to Christ's mission through us. A favorite part of Steve’s service in the presbytery has been supporting and encouraging imaginative and courageous pastoral candidates and new pastors, a passion he looks forward to bringing to his new role at Fuller as he works with students discerning and preparing for their vocational dreams.
Steve brings administrative experience and pastoral warmth to the Dean of Students role, filled for the first time since 2010. He will focus on student concerns, enable student formation and care, and participate on the team responsible for student life.
Steve’s wife, Alison, is a pediatric physical therapist, and they have two college-age daughters.
