56 AG churches have been destroyed, and another 33 churches

have lost their roofs.

As relief organizations and countries pour aid and personnel into the central Philippines, the area devastated by Typhoon Haiyan on November 8, AG(Assemblies of God) World Missions and Convoy of Hope are continuing their relief efforts in a number of locations, including more remote areas where other aid is slow in coming.

The scale of the disaster is massive. Nearly 4,000 are confirmed dead, at least 4 million people have been displaced from their homes, and more than 13 million in some way affected by the typhoon. The Assemblies of God in the Philippines did not go unscathed. Rey Calusay, general superintendent of the Philippines Assemblies of God, has reported that 56 AG churches have been destroyed, and another 33 churches have lost their roofs.

The ongoing challenge for months to come will be to sustain huge numbers of people while debris is cleared, homes are rebuilt, and businesses are re-established.

Convoy of Hope reports that 428,742 meals have been distributed among Haiyan survivors, in addition to tents and other relief supplies. From funds received in the Philippines, Convoy of Hope Philippines also purchased bottled water and canned goods, allowing volunteers to make 1,500 food packs for families.

AGWM Executive Director Greg Mundis is asking all U.S. AG churches to continue praying for the situation in the Philippines. "Pray for our fellow AG believers in the Philippines, our missionaries, and Convoy of Hope personnel," he says. "We must do all we can to provide relief and comfort for the many thousands who are suffering."
